Technical skills:

  • Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM): I am an expert in applying various TEM techniques including electron diffraction, diffraction contrast imaging, high-resolution phase contrast imaging, electron energy loss spectroscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy for crystal structure identification, defect investigation and composition analysis.

  • Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM): I have extensive experiences in materials surface morphology examination by secondary electron imagining, crystal texture analysis using electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) for coarse-grained materials and transmission Kikuchi diffraction (TKD) for nanocrystalline materials, and nanoscale sample (standard TEM samples, nanopillars and atom-probe-tips) preparation using the focused ion beam (FIB) technique;

  • Other skills: I am also an expert in nanoindentation, X-ray diffraction analysis, Optical Microscopy analysis, IT skill (working with <Matlab>, <Solidworks>, <Microsoft Office>, and Computational Fluid Dynamics software package.

Research briefing:

My PhD research project is <Exploring the Grain Refinement Mechanisms Induced by High-Pressure Torsion Processing>. Currently, I am working on three projects: (1) Tribology study of Al-Si composites; (2) Tribology study of nano-twinned copper; and (3) Constitutive behavior of steels under high strain rates. I implement various materials characterization techniques to study the evolutions of microstructures and mechanical properties of metallic materials/composites during plastic deformation processes.
